How do I find my courthouse and courtroom?
Start with your latest hearing notice or court order. Look for the courthouse name, street address and assigned department or courtroom, along with the hearing date and time. Use the San Diego Superior Court’s official location information to check the address, and contact the office handling your case if the courtroom assignment is missing or unclear.
Check your hearing paperwork
Keep these details together when checking where to appear:
- Your case number.
- The courthouse name and full street address.
- The department or courtroom number.
- The hearing date and time.
- Any instructions about appearing in person or remotely.
The courtroom may be identified as a “Department” or “Dept.” on your paperwork. If you have received a later notice changing the hearing details, use it when confirming your assignment. If notices conflict, ask the court to clarify before your hearing.
Confirm the courthouse address
Use the official Court Locations directory to find the listed courthouse and review its location information. Do not assume that the courthouse nearest your home is the correct destination.
San Diego Superior Court has several facilities, and the appropriate location depends on the case and service involved. Juvenile Court and Kearny Mesa Traffic Court, for example, are separate facilities. Match the full address rather than relying only on a neighborhood or division name.
If you cannot find your courtroom assignment
If you need to identify your case or the location holding its file, start with the Court Index linked from the official Accessing Court Records page. A file location alone does not confirm the courtroom for your next hearing.
For an unclear or missing hearing assignment, use the court’s Contact Us directory to reach the business office for your case type and division. Have your case number and hearing paperwork available, and ask the office to confirm the courthouse, department, date and time.
Before you leave for court
The court’s hearing appearance instructions direct people appearing in person to arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled hearing and report directly to the assigned courtroom. Allow time for parking, security screening and finding your department, and follow any additional instructions on your notice.
