How do I confirm that my payment was received?
For an online San Diego County property tax payment, save the receipt marked “Successful” after submitting, then check the matching bill in the Treasurer-Tax Collector’s official search and payment system. Confirm that the payment applies to the correct parcel or bill, tax year and installment. If the receipt and bill record do not agree, contact Tax Collection before making another payment.
Check your payment receipt
The Treasurer-Tax Collector states that an online transaction is not complete until you click “Submit” and receive a receipt marked “Successful.” Adding an installment to the cart or reaching the verification screen is not confirmation of payment.
Keep the receipt, confirmation number, payment date and amount. Compare the parcel or bill number and installment with the bill you intended to pay.
For e-check, successful submission does not guarantee that the bank will release the funds. The official Secured Property Tax FAQs explain that a payment returned unpaid by the bank will have its payment record canceled.
Review the correct tax bill record
Look up the bill and review the payment status and any remaining balance shown. If you need help finding it, see how to find your property tax bill online.
Check each installment and any separate supplemental, escape or defaulted bill. A payment toward one bill or installment does not establish that every tax obligation for the property has been paid.
The prior-year records tool is a historical summary of paid secured taxes as of June 30. Use the current search and payment system, or contact the office, to confirm a recent payment.
If you paid by mail, through your bank or through a lender
Keep your mailing records, check details, bank payment confirmation or lender payment information. Ask the bank or lender for the payment date, amount, reference number and parcel or bill number used.
Compare that information with the County’s bill record. A scheduled bank payment or lender notice alone does not confirm that the County has applied payment to the correct bill. If you paid at a counter, retain the receipt for the same comparison.
If the payment is missing, unclear or returned
Call Tax Collection at 877-829-4732 or use the official contact page. Have your parcel or bill number, installment, payment date, amount, method and confirmation details available. Ask whether the payment was received and applied, and whether further action is required.
For a returned e-check, review the official E-Check Payment FAQs and confirm the replacement payment requirements and any charges with the office. If a deadline is approaching, contact Tax Collection promptly rather than assuming the original submission resolved the bill.
